"After
being a founding member and flagging with Flagmania and the boys
in
Adelaide
for 2 years, I've recently moved back to
Sydney
(after many years
away) for a year to study a Masters Degree in Social Development.
To me flagging is still hot and out there. With some wild new tie
dyed flags (c/o Xavier from
San Francisco
) I've flagged at the GLBT Harbour Party, the Midnight Shift
(just for fun really) and in the Mardi Gras Parade with a gaggle
of six glam and gorgeous drag queens. Some guys I've met here are
keen to learn too.
Through this gay community project I get to challenge myself, get
fitter, learn new tricks and clearly have fun.
I've been around theatre and performance since I was a kid in
Sydney
actually. Creativity, humanity and passion keep me alive and
excited and flagging helps. Especially if you have diva
inclinations :)
I love creative, invigorating, bold, contemporary and unique
community projects and that's what this is. Since I try not to be
a shag on a rock this helps.
Flagmania is a mixed and evolving team of guys - and now me being
in
Sydney
maybe something can grow here with any
Sydney
guys who already flag here. I like to think I can make a
difference to people around me, the communities I'm a part of and
the bigger global picture. Maybe that's why I get excited about
the International Development work I'm studying.
From my early days in Sydney taxi driving as a student job, then
graphic arts work, community theatre performance, European / SE
Asian and NW African overland travelling, working on Adelaide's
first gay youth project, being active in HIV / AIDS work,
teaching English in Germany & learning German, studying in
Greece, tutoring at University, and working with the gay
community, flagging is up there as part of the evolving picture
of my life.
There's more life to come. Rock on! Join us!"
